The Master League in Pokémon Go allows you to use the most powerful Pokémon you’ve acquired in the mobile game and use them in a battle against other players. You want to bring your best Pokémon, which usually means leaning on the many legendaries that have appeared throughout the years to define the majority of your team. Here’s what you need to know about the best Pokémon teams for the Master League in Pokémon Go.
The Master League allows you to use any Pokémon, and there are no CP or XL restrictions. Because of this, trainers that have reached level 40 or above will typically be the more difficult opponents. Make sure you’ve powered your Pokémon up by feeding them XL Candy.

The first team we’ll highlight features Dragonite as the Lead Pokémon. It’s one of the superior Pokémon you start with in the Master League, and you can swap it out for Meloetta as the backup choice. We recommend reserving Solgaleo as your final Pokémon, but this might change depending on your opponent.
The next team features Lugia, the legendary Psychic and Flying-type Pokémon. If you can use a shadow version of Lugia, this would be preferred. Although both versions are powerful, we recommend teaming it up with Giratina (Origin) and Kyurem, which can interchange as the final Pokémon. Lugia is a strong starter, but don’t be worried about swapping it out for one of these other Pokémon if it takes too much damage.
For this team, we’ll swap out the Flying-type Lead Pokémon for Zacian, a Fairy-type. There are going to be multiple Dragon-type Pokémon used throughout this competition, so this could be a good Lead or Closer Pokémon on your team. Groudon is the strongest Ground-type Pokémon you can use in this competition, and it’s one we highly recommend, especially alongside Zekrom, a Dragon and Electric-type.
This team uses Mewtwo as the Lead Pokémon, one of the stronger Psychic-types. Like Lugia, you might prefer using the shadow version if you have this Pokémon, but both are acceptable choices. In addition, you’ll want to add Xerneas to your team and Gyarados, one of the stronger non-Dragon-type Pokémon frequently used by players in the Master League.
The last team on this list consists of Reshiram, Florges, and Zaruda. Reshiram is a powerful Dragon and Fire-type Pokémon, but feel free to swap it out for Florges if you’re taking too much damage from other Dragon-types. Finally, you may want to reserve Zarude as the final Pokémon for your team, catching your opponent off-guard. Zarude is a strong Pokémon with enough defense to withstand several Pokémon attacks before fainting.
